What help is there?

Migraine Ireland

As a Migraine carer, here are some medications, treatments and support you can suggest to the person in your life living with Migraine.

Migraine is not life threatening, but it can destroy the quality of their life. The first thing that they must recognise is that ultimately, migraine is their own responsibility. You can be supportive, but it is up to them to initiate action in managing the condition as best they can.

Resist the common temptation to push the whole issue aside as soon as an attack subsides. Instead, work on how they can prevent or curtail the next attack. Start by finding out more about how migraine can be managed. Although there is no ‘cure’ for migraine, it can be effectively managed through a combination of medical treatments and self-help approaches.

Going it alone

Not having a diagnosis or trying to manage alone can lead to complications , including:

  • Worsening of the condition
  • Developing secondary conditions
  • Complications of other health issues or comorbidities

Migraine is a condition that can be managed by a General Practitioner or sometimes specialist care is needed. In Ireland there are now several dedicated Migraine Clinics.
To address the fragmented landscape of healthcare in Ireland, part of our service is to provide signposting to services. This is given in the hopes that it will help people to access the care they need, specific to their locality.
Migraine Ireland shares information that has been provided to us, and provides it in good faith in the hope that it will help. Migraine Ireland does not endorse or recommend any specific healthcare providers.
