Peri-menopause is the process of a women’s body gradually slowing down and stopping the cycle of making an releasing eggs and having periods every month. It begins in the early to mid 40s.

Menstrual cycles shorten during the peri menopause. The fluctuating levels of the hormone oestrogen can cause migraine attacks to be more severe and frequent during peri menopause. Other common symptoms such as night sweats and hot flushes can also have an effect on your condition or trigger attacks.

This can be a difficult time and it is important that you are supported with your care and management of your condition during this time. Many GP clinics now run menopause clinics, speak with your doctor as soon as possible if you are experiencing changes in your condition which you think may be related to menopause.
