Society’s Headache the Socioeconomic Impact of Migraine – Work Foundation

The Work Foundation teamed up with Novartis UK to help better understand the needs of people living, and working with migraine in the UK. They’ve produced an 84-paged report which was launched yesterday (25th April 2018) in the British Parliament. The report is called Society’s Headache: the Socioeconomic Impact of Migraine and it’s overall aims were to;

  1. assess the prevalence and socioeconomic impact of migraine on the UK, estimating both the indirect and direct costs attributable to it
  2. explore the barriers to optimal health and work-related outcomes for people with migraine
  3. develop a series of evidence-based recommendations – aimed at policymakers – which have the potential to reduce migraine’s burden for the benefit of government, employers and the millions of individuals (and their families) in the UK that experience it.

Although this report specifically targets the UK, much of the information applies to Ireland and the rest of Europe. More notice is needed in government, more education is needed in medical professions and more awareness is needed in general of the condition which is now regarded as among the top two causes of disability in the world.
